Colloquium: Pioneers- Innovation-Media-Creation

Call for papers

On May 16, the colloquium on Pioneers in Media-Creation Innovation will be held at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). The theme of this event is media creation and the purpose is to explore historical, ontological, critical, and philosophical angles on the links uniting technological innovation and media creation. The colloquium will also celebrate the contributions of two pioneers in the field: Jean-Pierre Boyer and the late Philippe Ménard.

Jean-Pierre Boyer is a pioneer in experimental video in Quebec. He invented the Boyétizeur. Professor Boyer is now associate Teacher to the École des médias (UQAM) and director of the Centre de recherche en imagerie populaire at UQAM.

Philippe Ménard invented the Synchoros, a Gesture Controlled electroacoustic Instrument. At the moment of his untimely death in 1999, he was professor at the Communications Department of UQAM.

This call for papers is open to all researchers, students and artists. The subject can be examined from different angles (research/creation presentation, historical presentation, critical reflection, essay, etc.), and using various approaches: ontological, critical and/or philosophical.
